How to Reach Kedarnath from Delhi (Ways to Reach)

There are several ways to travel from Delhi to Kedarnath depending on your budget, travel time, and comfort level. While the road journey remains the most popular option, travellers can also combine train, flight, or helicopter services to make the pilgrimage more convenient.

By Road (Self-Drive or Taxi)

Travelling by road is the most flexible way to reach Kedarnath from Delhi. The distance to Gaurikund is approximately 450 km, and the drive usually takes 13–17 hours depending on traffic and weather conditions.

Instead of driving continuously, it's recommended to divide the journey into two days with an overnight stay at Haridwar, Rudraprayag, Sitapur, or Guptkashi. This reduces driver fatigue and makes the mountain drive much safer.

Fuel stations are easily available until Rudraprayag, while petrol pumps become less frequent beyond this point, so travellers should avoid running on a low fuel tank.

From Dehradun Airport, travellers must continue by road to Gaurikund, a journey of approximately 230–250 km that takes 8–10 hours.

• Rishikesh to Gaurikund: Mountain roads with sharp bends, narrow sections, and slower driving speeds. Travellers should drive carefully, especially during the monsoon season.

Important: Private vehicles are permitted only up to Sonprayag. From Sonprayag, all pilgrims must use government-operated shared shuttle jeeps to travel the final 5 km to Gaurikund, where the Kedarnath trek begins.
