If you’re searching for a Kedarnath tour package from Pune, you’re planning one of India’s most demanding and most rewarding pilgrimages — a journey from Maharashtra to a temple at 3,583 meters where Lord Shiva is worshipped as one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. (If you want the full background on the temple and the yatra, our complete Kedarnath travel guide covers that in detail — this page focuses purely on planning your trip from Pune.)
At Abhijay Travel, I’ve spent the last 5+ years building fixed departures, verified stays, and on-ground support specifically for pilgrims traveling from Maharashtra — so elderly travelers, families, and first-timers can complete the yatra without chasing permits, transport connections, or last-minute mountain accommodation themselves.

Pune to Kedarnath: Distance, Train, Flight & Road Options
Before you pick a package, it helps to know exactly how the Pune-to-Kedarnath journey works — because there's no direct route, and the mode you choose changes your total trip cost and duration significantly.
Comparison Between Different Travel Modes
| Mode | Distance | Duration | Approx. Cost (one-way, per person) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Road (full route) | ~1,800–1,950 km via Haridwar/Sonprayag | 33–40 hrs (usually split over 2–3 days) | Included in package |
| Train (Pune → Haridwar/Dehradun) | ~1,840 km | ~28–37 hrs | range from roughly ₹770 for Sleeper class up to ₹2,835 for Second AC (2A) |
| Flight (Pune → Dehradun) + road transfer | ~1,360 km air + 6–8 hr drive to Gaurikund | ~2h20m flying time (on direct-service days) + drive | ₹6,500–₹12,000+, verify live fare |
| Trek (Gaurikund → Kedarnath) | 16 km one-way | 4–8 hrs on foot | Pony/palki/helicopter available at extra cost |
Pune to Kedarnath by Train
There's currently only one direct weekly train connecting Pune to Haridwar, so this route needs advance booking and a fixed travel date — it isn't a "book two days before" option like a Mumbai–Pune train. Journey time runs close to 30–37 hours depending on the exact service. Sleeper class fares start low (around ₹780) with AC classes going well above ₹2,000. If your travel dates don't line up with the weekly service, a connecting route via Panvel or Kalyan is the practical backup, though it adds transfer time. ou can check the exact train availability and fares on the official IRCTC website.
Pune to Kedarnath Flight
Flying is the fastest way to start the journey. A direct Pune–Dehradun flight can take as little as 2 hours 20 minutes, landing you at Jolly Grant Airport — but direct service isn't available every day of the week, so on other days the same route can take 5–9 hours with a layover. From Dehradun or Haridwar, it's another 6–8 hours by road to reach Gaurikund, where the trek to Kedarnath begins.

Pune to Kedarnath by Road — Taxi vs Self-Drive
By taxi / private cab A full Pune-to-Kedarnath cab booking is rare — at 1,800+ km, most travelers fly or train to Delhi/Dehradun/Haridwar first, then join a private vehicle (Dezire, Ertiga, Innova, or Tempo Traveller depending on group size) for the Haridwar–Guptkashi–Kedarnath leg, which is already built into the package pricing above.
Regardless of how you arrive: private vehicles aren't allowed beyond Sonprayag. Everyone switches to the government-authorized shuttle for the final ~5 km to Gaurikund.
Self-drive Technically possible, but not something we recommend or arrange:
- 1,800+ km and 33–40 hrs of driving needs 3–4 full days each way
- Night driving is restricted on the yatra route
- Mountain roads are narrow, with monsoon landslides possible
- Sonprayag parking fills up fast in peak season (May–June)
- No backup support if the car breaks down or weather disrupts the route
Best suited to experienced drivers in a small group, with 5+ days to spare and their own stay arrangements.
Which Should You Choose — Train, Flight, or Full Package?
- Budget-first, flexible on time: Train to Haridwar, then join the road package from there.
- Time-limited (4–5 days total): Fly into Dehradun and start the road journey the same day.
- Traveling with elderly parents or young children: Flight is strongly recommended over the 30+ hour train journey — the shorter total travel time matters more than the fare difference.
- Want zero coordination: Book the full Pune-to-Pune package below and let the transport, permits, and stays be handled end-to-end.
Why Book This Kedarnath Tour Package From Pune?
I started Abhijay Travel because most Kedarnath packages sold to Maharashtra travelers were being coordinated remotely by agents who'd never actually run the Guptkashi–Gaurikund–Kedarnath leg themselves. Every package on this page is built around routes, hotels, and transport we've personally verified — not just resold from a Delhi-based operator's inventory.
- Direct operator, not a reseller — private vehicle, verified stays, and on-ground coordination throughout
- Built for Pune travelers specifically — realistic Delhi/Dehradun connection timing, not a generic North India itinerary
- Trek support included — guidance on pony, palki, and helicopter options at Gaurikund, with honest advice on which is right for your group
Best Time for a Kedarnath Tour from Pune
The best time to visit Kedarnath from Pune is May to June for stable weather or September to October for fewer crowds. In 2026, the temple opened on April 22 and is set to close around November 11. Avoid July and August due to heavy monsoon rains and dangerous landslides on hill roads. [1, 2, 3]
Seasonal Breakdown
- May–June (Summer):
- Pleasant daytime weather and cold nights.
- Peak crowd levels due to school vacations.
- Fully active travel services and helicopter options.
- July–August (Monsoon):
- Heavy and continuous rainfall.
- High risk of slips, mudslides, and road blocks.
- Best avoided for safety.
- September–October (Post-Monsoon):
- Crisp air, bright skies, and clear mountain views.
- Fewer tourists make it ideal for family or elderly travelers.
- Temperatures drop lower than summer months
Planning Beyond Kedarnath
If Kedarnath is one stop on a larger pilgrimage plan, it's worth looking at how this fits alongside our other routes — from Char Dham and Do Dham departures to our broader collection of North India pilgrimage, all built and operated the same way this one is.
